Shrunken Jumper Policy

Disaster... You've popped your favourite Peregrine Knitwear in the dryer by mistake and now it’s shrunk. Don't panic - we've got you covered.

Shrunken Jumper Policy

We will offer you 30% off your next jumper purchase on our website. It doesn’t have to be the same size, colour or even style of knitwear to the shrunken item - it can be anything from our Men’s or Women’s Knitwear ranges.

Mistakes happen but we still want you to enjoy all the benefits of Wool in your wardrobe. With this in mind, we want to introduce our new Shrunken Jumper Policy, an initiative to help relieve frustration when you have accidentally shrunken your Peregrine jumper.

To take advantage of the Policy, please email support@peregrineclothing.co.uk and we will share the discount code for your new jumper. Please note that the discount will only be applicable on our full price jumpers, not Last Chance items.

We are exploring our options for making use of the shrunken jumpers that are no longer needed, but for now, we ask you to take them to be recycled or donated so that they can be reused or given a new lease of life.

Caring for Wool

The majority of our Knitwear is made from 100% British or Merino Wool. Wool is naturally odor-resistant and long-lasting, so a good-quality jumper can look and feel great for years with proper care. Caring for wool jumpers properly helps maintain their softness, shape, and longevity.

Supplier: Shepley Yarn, UK

30°C very mild fine wash. Do not tumble dry, Do not Bleach, Gentle Dry Cleaning, Can be ironed to a maximum temperature of 160°C

To take care of your garment that has been made from British Wool, we recommend hand washing using the Shear Delight Wash Bar in cold water only, please do not use a hand wash setting on a washing machine.

To dry, lay the garment flat and do not use a tumble dryer. To ensure longevity of the garment we suggest folding the garment and storing it with a Clothes Doctor Anti-moth Scent Bag.

You may experience bobbling on the outer layer, more so when the garment is new - this is completely natural and occurs because Merino fibres are significantly softer than regular wool, causing shorter ends to rise and tangle together, creating small bobbles. To look after your garment we recommend using a specialised Merino wool comb which works perfectly to remove these! Additionally, once those looser fibres have shed, the pilling should slow down significantly.

To dry your garment, lay flat and do not tumble dry, we also recommend storing it folded with a Anti-moth Scent Bag. Folding your garment instead of hanging it, helps keep the correct shape and will prolong wear.

Wool Pilling & Bobbling

How to deal with Wool bobbling

You may experience bobbling on the outer layer of your Merino Wool garment, more so when the garment is new.

This is completely natural and occurs because Merino fibres are significantly softer than regular wool, causing shorter ends to rise and tangle together, creating small bobbles.

A fabric shaver or specialised wool comb works perfectly to remove these! Additionally, once those looser fibres have shed, the pilling should slow down significantly.

How to unshrink your Wool Jumper

It is actually possible to unshrink a wool garment and restore it back to its original glory, and it takes just five simple steps:

1. Fill up your sink with lukewarm water and add 1/3 of a cup of hair conditioner. Mix until the conditioner has dissolved.

2. Add your knitwear to the water and leave to soak for around 20 minutes. Massage it occasionally to ensure the conditioner is worked into the fibres evenly over the item.

3. Drain the water, and when the sink is empty, press and gently squeeze the knit to release the water, but do not wring it out.

4. Lay out a towel and place your jumper flat on top of it, before laying another towel on top. Press down gently all over to absorb the water from the knit.

5. Gently stretch your jumper back into its original shape and lay over an airer or hang on a padded coat hanger to allow it to finish drying naturally.

How to fix a pull in Knitwear

  • The "Don't" List

Do NOT cut it. It will turn into a hole.

Do NOT pull it hard. You’ll puck the entire row of the jumper.

  • The "Stretch & Massage" (Fixes 80% of snags)Ribbed knit is very elastic. Often, the thread just needs to be nudged back into place.

Grip the fabric about two inches on either side of the snag.

Tug firmly and quickly horizontally, then vertically, then diagonally.

Result: This tension often sucks the extra loop back into the surrounding stitches automatically.

  • The "Pull-Through" (For stubborn loops)If the loop is still there after stretching, you need to hide it on the inside.

Find a tool: A bobby pin, paperclip, or crochet hook works best.

The Move: Poke your tool from the inside of the jumper to the outside, right where the snag is.

The Hook: Catch the snagged loop and pull it through to the inside of the jumper.

The Tuck: Make sure the loop is tucked into one of the "valleys" (the recessed rows) of the ribbing on the inside so it stays hidden.

  • The "Steam Reset"

Once the loop is on the inside:

Give it a blast of steam from an iron or steamer (keep the iron 2 inches away from the fabric).

The Heat helps the wool or cotton fibres "remember" their original shape and lock the fix in place.
