Introducing an exciting new way to trade in your old Peregrine products for instant credit and embrace circularity.
We've partnered with Birl, whose mission is to ensure everything is either reused or recycled. Together, we're working to extend the life of quality clothing through recycling, repurposing, and re-wearing.
With Birl, you can easily trade in your pre-loved Peregrine items in exchange for instant credit toward a new purchase. Simply visit any product page on our website to begin your trade-in. Our goal is to reduce waste by keeping our products in use while offering more people the opportunity to invest in high-quality, sustainable clothing
We interviewed Birl founders, Cam and Peter, to find out more about what inspired Birl and their future plans.
What is Birl and how does it work?
Birl has been created to make it easier for brands and their customers to embrace circular consumption, with a particular emphasis on resale. It works by the Birl button being added underneath add to cart on a brands product pages, and this allows a customer to trade-in any Peregrine garments that they no longer use for immediate site credit. We then provide a shipping label for the customer to send back their item, which is resold or recycled to ensure that each garments lifespan is extended as long as possible.
What was the inspiration for starting Birl?
We wanted to make circular consumption easier to adopt. For brands, we knew that there was a growing appetite to offer resale to their customers, but they were unable to do it all by themselves. For customers, everyone wants to be better in the choices that they make, but there was previously a lack of adoption as the selling process was too complicated, and the rewards available were not meaningful enough.
How did you decide on the name Birl?
This is a question we get asked often! Birl is actually an old Scottish word that means to turn or spin and was specifically used in reference to make someone else spin or turn. We thought this well aligned with trying to get more customers and brands to embrace circular consumption. We also love that it is a verb, so as we grow, we will hopefully here people in the street saying, did you Birl that?
How and why did you pick the partners for Birl?
Fundamentally, Birl’s vision is to remain as the technology glue between all of the amazing existing players in fashion, resale and recycling. With this in mind, we are free to look for the best partners in each space. We are really happy with our current offering, with Marrkt.com offering the most premium resale process going, Greater Goods being incredibly imaginative with their upcycling initiatives and Roberts Recycling having now won multiple King’s enterprise awards for their innovative approach to recycling. All of our current partners are based in the UK, and we are aiming to continue this wherever we can.
What does the future look like for Birl?
Our vision is to create a world where all clothing is either being used or recycled back into new clothing. We will continue to work towards making this a reality, embracing developments in technology as we do. We want to achieve our vision on a global scale, and I am excited to be able to say that we will start this by being available in the Nordics in the next couple of months.
