Peregrine x Jordan Stephens
We are thrilled to be able to finally talk about our exclusive knitwear collaboration with the very talented Jordan Stephens!
-
For his debut fashion project, Jordan had complete creative license with the collection, working closely with our MD, Tom Glover, on the technical elements of producing high quality, sustainable knitwear using British Wool.
-
Jordan, a self-confessed lover of a good cardigan, is regularly pictured in knitwear. Known for his relaxed effortless style, we quickly learned that Jordan is a bit of a knitwear connoisseur. The result; an oversized orange and peach five gauge waffle knit jumper, ‘The Long Summer Jumper’ and a mint green / grey boxy checked washed knit cardigan, ‘The Proper Mint Cardigan’.
Sustainability was the catalyst for the collaboration.
Known for his relaxed effortless style, Jordan has also built a reputation (on and offline) on his social commentary on mental
health, representation and the environment.
His passion was clear from our first conversation and Jordan's honest, humble attitude to life and the environment resonates through the collection.
-
The oversized and relaxed nature of both pieces was purposeful - Jordan wanted to create pieces that feel like they have been handed down through the family, across the years. He wants the knits to feel like a hug from a grandparent or best friend.
Made in Manchester; built to last
As with all Peregrine Knitwear, both the Jumper & Cardigan were knitted in Peregrine’s own Manchester factory, using 100% British wool.
Introducing: The Long Summer Jumper
Jordan commented, “Orange is my favourite colour. It feels central, grounded, bold and bright. It’s somehow
genderless by our modern perceptions. I feel happy when I look at it. Particularly more burnt hues. I guess sunsets are felt too.” The jumper also features a more open neckline; he continues to say, ‘I like my neck having space to breathe, and jumpers like that are hard to come by nowadays for some reason’.
Introducing: The Proper Mint Cardigan
Inspired by the wardrobe of his early 20’s when he wore a lot of grey, Jordan chose to incorporate the colour into his cardigan design.
-
With a twist on tradition Jordan added a teal, mint and turquoise tonal check. “I went with a check because of its history. Checks are iconic and undefeated. They’ve reverberated through class and revolt. I don’t know what it is about them in all honesty, but it’s never gone out of fashion.”
